Introduction to Visual Culture has three main areas of focus: the meanings of images, the relationships between seeing and being seen, and the significance and character of vision as a means of knowing the world. Drawing from a variety of visual examples from a range of visual technologies (digital, print and broadcast), the paper explores how we represent, make meanings and communicate with others. It also introduces ideas, images and concepts that are central to our experience of the visual in culture and society.
